About the Alexander Technique
The
Alexander Technique brings a wide range of health benefits by enabling the
release of unnecessary tensions,
increased self-awareness, and a return to natural poise
.
F M Alexander discovered the method that bears his name almost by
accident as he struggled to overcome his own
postural and vocal problems. It is now taught
worldwide in schools, music and drama colleges, and health clinics.
It is used by athletes, actors, teachers, riders, office workers and
by anyone who wants to change themselves and
explore new outcomes.
During lessons an Alexander Teacher works with gentle
guiding hands and verbal instructions to encourage an improved neck/head back relationship,
resulting in effortless uprightness, greater awareness, and an
aptitude for thinking in activity

renown.

The British Medical
Journal recently reported the results for the randomized controlled
trial of Alexander technique lessons, exercise, and massage (ATEAM)
for chronic and recurrent back pain. The conclusion of the trial was
that one to one lessons in the Alexander technique from STAT

teachers have long term benefits for patients with
chronic back pain. You can read the full report here

Body Learning: An Introduction to the Alexander Technique
Almost certainly the most
popular introductory book with clear explanations of the
principles of the Alexander Technique. We recommend all our new
pupils to read it. Ignore the last chapter when he just goes on
about himself - the rest of the book is excellent!

The Alexander Technique: A Skill for Life
This is an
excellent title, which manages to be a good read, whilst giving an
in-depth explanation of the Technique, and is highly recommended. |
